100 to Watch: Thurbert Baker Attorney General, Georgia
Background: Lawyer; state representative.
Why I got into public service: I witnessed too many people who were quick to criticize government but never willing to get involved to make it better. ... I wanted to be at the table helping to solve issues of governance rather than just complaining about government.
Guiding Value: Never forget those who have helped you achieve your goals and always be willing to give something back. As you are giving back, remember it is not equal giving but equal sacrifice that should guide your actions.
#1 Rule of Politics: You can never really learn or appreciate another perspective if you are always talking yourself. Listening is worth its weight in gold.
First Job: Farmhand.
