Rep. Jim Moran announced today his strong agreement with Vice President Gore's choice of Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (D-CT) as his running mate. "I am elated that the Vice President has chosen Senator Lieberman as his Vice Presidential candidate. He's an excellent choice; a man of integrity, intelligence and vision."

"It speaks volumes about the Vice President's agenda to have chosen the Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC). A Gore-Lieberman ticket ensures that successful policies of centrist governance, fiscal responsibility and social inclusion will be continued."

"Joe Lieberman understands there is an essential role for government to play in society, but it is the private sector where jobs are best created and individual success best achieved. The government's role is not to take care of people, but to equip people to take care of themselves. Senator Lieberman is an internationalist and believes in free and fair trade. He's a strong proponent of supporting the technological revolution that is providing unprecedented productivity to our workforce."

"Joe Lieberman is a personal friend and someone with whom I have consistently sought counsel and found guidance during my years in Congress."

Rep. Jim Moran, who represents Virginia's Eighth District, is a founding member and co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition, the DLC counterpart in the House. The group of centrist House Democrats are committed to fiscal responsibility, educational reform, free trade, and maintaining America's technological competitiveness.
