Johnson Says Lieberman "Good Choice" for Vice President

Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) made the following statement on the announcement of Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) to be the Vice Presidential running mate of Vice President Al Gore.

"The choice of Senator Joe Lieberman by Vice President Gore to be his running mate reflects the centrist make-up of the Democratic ticket. Senator Lieberman is a founding member of the Democratic Leadership Council that reflects the moderate members of the Democratic Party. I am a co-founding member with Senator Lieberman of the New Democratic Forum, which further highlights his centrist, pragmatic beliefs," Johnson said.

"He is a good choice. He is an intelligent, tremendously talented member of the Senate and has a depth of experience that will help the Democratic ticket. I have worked with Senator Lieberman to expand exports and on developing biomass fuels, so I believe he will be good for South Dakota's farmers and ranchers."
