The Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) will hold the 2003 National Conversation in Philadelphia on Sunday, July 27th and Monday, July 28th. Three years ago Philadelphia was the site of the Republican National Convention where George W. Bush promised a more centrist Republican Party, a new tone in Washington, and a "responsibility era." This year the DLC will go to Philadelphia to focus on the promises Bush has broken since the 2000 convention, a battle plan for how to beat him in 2004, and the agenda New Democrats will take to the country. The theme of this year's event is "The New Democrats' Declaration: What We're Fighting For."
Now in its seventh consecutive year, the 2003 National Conversation will be the premier meeting of New Democrat elected officials this year. More than 300 elected officials from across the country are expected to attend, and featured speakers will include DLC Chair Sen. Evan Bayh, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, and U.S. Representatives Bob Menendez and Harold Ford Jr. Also joining the 2003 National Conversation will be members of the DLC leadership team including Sen. Tom Carper, Rep. Ellen Tauscher, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, and PA State Rep. Jennifer Mann, as well as event honorary co-chairs DE State Treasurer Jack Markell and PA State Sen. Allyson Schwartz.
